United Way of Kern County Participates In Read Across America Day!

Bakersfield, CA – February 28, 2018 – United Way of Kern County volunteers will join millions of their peers across the country to celebrate Read Across America Day on Friday, March 2, 2018. Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.

“We hope to instill a love for books in children by celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday,” said Rachel Hoetker, UWKC’s Early Childhood Development Program Manager. She continued, “Taking the time to read to a child, and making it fun, is a great investment in that child’s success.”

Each year, to honor the good doctor and celebrate the fun and value of reading, UWKC partners with Kern County-based preschools to provide guest readers in their classrooms. This year, volunteers will read books at Edison Preschool, located at 1036 Vineland Road, 93306. Volunteers will be reading from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
