Education
United Way of Kern County understands that the foundation for the ability to read begins at birth or even before. Listening to and interacting with parents/caregivers are the first steps to success. The steps continue through preschool and up to the third grade. This is because it is at this time that children make the important transition from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” Those who are unable to read proficiently by the third or fourth grade are at a much higher risk of failing and ultimately dropping out of school.

Health
During these times, keeping healthy is one of our main concerns. We just accomplished our goal of serving 60,000 meals in 30 days to those affected by COVID-19 and essential workers. We are currently seeking funds to begin another project of providing meals for those in need. We also conduct proper PPE training to help everyone using them stay safe and healthy. Please consider donating towards our health department so we can continue to serve Kern County.

Financial Stability
For years, United Way of Kern County has been at the forefront in providing free income tax services through our VITA(Volunteer Income Tax Assistant) program. We also provide financial literacy workshops to help the community towards financial stability. Please consider giving towards our Financial Stability section where we can continue to grow and reach more individuals and families helping them financially.
